Portfolio Assigment
New Assignment Notice!
I have been thinking again about what students take away with them on completion of this course. Our goal is for everyone enrolled in Career Technical Education classes to have a web presence that will be helpful for future job placement. We have used googlepages. com for this until it no longer was available and free to use. This year I found that Google is now offering similar web resources that are now called sites.google.com . This site is to include specific information with links to different CTE classes the student has taken. Our blog done in Imaging Technology is the area where one can demonstrate skills learned and interests developed. I'll link only exceptional blogs to my own at rchsimage.blogspot.com
With all portfolio work being electronic, I am adding paper mini portfolio assignments this year. Students are asked to develop a theme with at least 3 images and displayed as professionally as we can get. So far we have used a nice certificate folder to hold 4'x6' images printed on a Cannon inkjet printer and hp gloss photo paper. To mount the images we use an X-acto knife to cut a diagonal slit where the edge of the picture goes behind.
For our first mini portfolio, students are assigned to use the Photo Shop technique of selective color. Perhaps I can take some screen shots to later describe this simple technique. Colbie worked on this in class today.

Another day in class...
I have been blessed with students that like to learn. We tend to enjoy class time. I try to create due dates on pace student's normal speed. When a student is absent from class, he/she needs to make up the time missed before school, lunchtime, etc.
you can see the black foam board sheet sitting above a computer in this photo. We share our work with each other this this manner.
General classroom work
Today most students were working on chapter 9 Kid's Stuff of Rhoda Grossman's book. The trace and fill technique is rahter neat. I remember working with Mr. Schlosser last spring to take an actual photograph, using Adobe Photo Shop to turn it into a drawing, and then use Shop Bot (CNC) hardware/software to route out a sign. Look for more on this in future post.
Continue with Blogging Assignment
Again this semester, I am requiring students to maintain a blog to display work they accomplish in class. I try to check each blog daily to assure myself no one posts anything that would be inappropriate. Grades for this includes 20 points per week which requires at least 2 posts in that week. At this time, I've taken a blog grade twice so all students should have a minimum of 4 posts.
At left I include Brad actually posting to blogspot. Yea!!

Spring Break
Today starts our long spring break where students have 2 weekends off. I hope everyone takes lots of photos for usage in class. Come back ready to learn some more!
One more try...

I'm posting a composite image where I used a color image. It is from my stock photo collection of Rappahannock County. This building was an elementary school at one time, later a tourist stop with crafts, to the current usage of housing non-profit organizations in the county.
I did not erase around the building to see how it would look. In my opinion, the result is not as "neat" as my other efforts.
